The return of Patches, a very unique Bottlenose Dolphin, thrilled whale watchers and crew aboard Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari.
Our first recorded sighting of Patches was in 2006. Since then we see him every couple of years on average, with our most recent sighting in November 2012.
His uncommon color variations, which range from dark gray to light pink and white, makes Patches very special among his fellow Bottlenose Dolphin. Most Bottlenose seen off Orange County, California is light to medium gray on top with white or pinkish tones on their belly.
Southern California has more dolphins than anywhere else in the world. We see five different species, including Bottlenose Dolphin like Patches, throughout the year.
