A unique bottlenose dolphin, nicknamed “Patches”, made a rare reappearance! Whale watchers aboard Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari only see this dolphin off Dana Point once or twice a year, on average.
When Mark Tyson heard a passenger onboard Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari call out that he’d seen a dolphin with a pink dorsal fin, his heart melted.
“I saw white underwater, and it grew whiter as he came up,” Tyson, a naturalist on the whale and dolphin-watching boat said. “He surfaced with another dolphin that came up with him every time he took a breath. He seems to have formed an alliance. Just like people, dolphins have their BFF.”
