Blue Whales Invade Dana Point!

As of August 20, 2012, we have encountered blue whales for 37 days in a row! Across three trips we saw a total of 17 blue whales, 18 fin whales, and 150 common dolphin.

Blue whales are the largest known animal to have ever lived, and they have invaded Dana Point! Southern California has the largest concentration of blue whales on the planet. To the delight of whale watchers, they migrate to the waters off Dana Point, California, every summer to feed on krill. If you’re visiting Dana Point the best time to see a blue whale is June through October.

Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Watching Safari offers blue whale watching trips daily*. We have year-round whale watching and dolphin watching trips to see gray whales (seasonal), blue whales (seasonal), fin whales, minke whales, humpback whales, and even killer whales (or, as we prefer to call them, orca whales). Aboard our high-tech catamaran sailboat you’ll BE one of the pod and feel what it’s like to swim with dolphins and whales without getting wet in our two Eye to Eye Underwater Viewing Pods. Knowledgeable marine naturalists like Captain Dave explain how these animals live while you see and touch our collection of whale and dolphin artifacts. You can listen below the surface with our research quality hydrophone. And Mrs. Capt. Dave’s yummy triple fudge brownies are served as a special treat on the ride back. Our whale watching trips are broadcast live on our website too! For more information about our whale watching trips from Dana Point please call (949) 488-2828.

*Please note blue whale trips are seasonal.
